Twittering? Tweeting?
So I set up a Twitter account but don’t really know what it is useful for (if anything). Feel free to follow if you want. More importantly, comment here and let me know what Twitter is useful for.
The Fine Print
Some things to consider. I will not necessarily be responding to (or even reading) comments. I generally do not block comments unless they are off-topic, merely a soap-box for the individual, or clearly spam. I reserve the right to ban persistent offenders. Occasionally a comment will be held up for moderation because it triggers a filter; in particular comments with four or more links will be delayed. Do not resubmit the comment - it will be posted when I get an opportunity. Lastly, commenting get automatically shut down three weeks after the post first appears. Have fun!

Ya know how, when you’re in the lab you can look across the room and see what your buddy is doing? When you’re at home you know what the kids are doing (some of the time, anyway)? It’s like that, only from much farther away.
Except you have to do the “telling what you are doing” part yourself.
Twitter is useful like your facebook status. You can put something witty to let your friends and family know you are three sheets to the wind or that you just stubbed your toe.
I use twitter to share links, pictures, and chronicle my day. Little journal entries less than 140 characters long. My grandma even has twitter.
Your question answered here:

It, and the associated time sucks like facebook, is useful for sucking away valuable time telling the world trivial little bits of information. Of course, since so few grants are being funded these days, Ill probably have time for twitter in a few more months….
Twitter is useful for . . . Uh. what ?
organizing flash mobs ?
